Brief Introduction

Introduction

Marketing & Sales department is one of the most important parts of the mining Industry which comes under the Director (Technical) of MCL. Our main goal is to market the planned Quantity of coal and coal products efficiently and economically in an eco-friendly manner with due regard to quality of the coal supplied.

The prime function of Marketing and Sales Department is to look after coal dispatch to various customers under different sectors through proper co-ordination between stakeholders like Customers, Areas, CIL & Concerned zonal Railways.

Marketing and sales department has five sections namely:
1) Rail Operation
2) Commercial
3) MIS
4) Road Sales
5) Sales Account

Activities

 1) Rail Operation Section

  • Rail allocation, endorsement, release and monitoring of offer allotment, loading time, reject wagons.
  • Correspondence with railways regarding supply of rakes, settlement of different charges etc, evacuation planning.
  • Auction Planning by rail.
  • Monitoring of different operational issues at area like demurrage, land license fee, Staff Cost, Underload/overload and other operational & commercial Issues.
  • SAP implementation and monitoring of sales cycle.
  • Communication with customers on operational issues and compliance on FSA terms.


2) MIS Section

  • Preparation of various reports like Annual Consumer Report, Director’s Report, Coal Controller Organization (CCO) Report, Daily Morning Report, Despatch Plan, Reply to RTI & Parliamentary Queries.


3) Road Sale Section

  • Preparation & Conduction of E-Auction.
  • Issuance of Road Delivery Orders(RDOs); Processing of refund of coal value and EMD refund.
  • Monitoring sufficient availability of RDOs at various mines/Areas.


4) Commercial Section

  • Issuance of LOA/LOI; Execution of Fuel Supply Agreement/MoUs.
  • Maintenance of data related to Commitment Guarantee/Security Deposit/ Bank Guarantees submitted by consumers against FSA/LOA.
  • Standing Linkage Committee (Long Term) related matters.
  • Legal Matters pertaining to FSA/LOA/MoU.


5) Sales Account

  • Accounting of advance payment made by consumer for the issuance of sales order.
  • Joint Reconciliation with consumers.
  • Processing of refund to consumers.
  • Preparation of Performance Incentive & Compensation bills as per the terms and conditions of FSA and interest on delayed payment on PI / Compensation.
  • Receiving of Bank Guarantee, getting confirmation from the bank and further sending it to cash section (Custodian of Bank Guarantee).
  • Debtor’s analysis along with provisions.
  • Deposit of statutory dues - TCS.

1 MCL has been the number one company among all the coal companies in the year FY 2021-22 with highest ever dispatch of 176.37 Million Tones registering a growth of 20.79 % over last year.
2 There has been increase of around 30% in despatch of coal to power sector in FY 21-22 as compared to FY 20-21 with coal dispatch to power sector in FY 21-22 being 127.121 MT as compared to 98.199 MT in FY 20-21.
3 There has been increase of around 20% in despatch of coal through eco-friendly modes like Rail / MGR/ Belt in FY 2021-22 as compared to FY 2020-21.
4 Highest ever Profit Before Tax (PBT) of Rs 11,462.42 Crores and Profit After Tax (PAT) of Rs 8480.50 Crores in FY 2021-22.
5 Highest ever booking of 51 Million Tes. of coal by consumers under various schemes of e-auction conducted during the FY 2021-22 with a gain of Rs.2931.09 Crores over Notified Price. The e-auctions have been done adhering to the guidelines of Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs issued on dt. 25.03.2019 wherein at least 50% of the total coal offered under various e-Auctions was under Special Forward E-auction for Power Sector.
6 Highest ever Indian Rail Rake despatch of 110 rakes (Talcher field – 62, IB field – 48) in a single day on 28th October 2021 with total despatch of 6,04,828 Tes. of coal on that day.
7 There has been an increase in rake loading of 15.2 rakes per day in the year 2021-22 as compared to 2020-21 with average despatch of 86.5 rakes per day in 2021-22 as compared to 71.3 rakes per day in 2020-21.
8 MCL has taken consumer friendly measures like introducing Usance LC facility for consumers taking coal through any mode / scheme (except Spot E- Auction) as per CIL guidelines.
9 MCL is the first subsidiary of CIL to sell excess coal of other companies such as coal from Manoharpur coal block of OCPL (around 0.843 Million Tes of coal)and Talabira II / III coal block of NLCIL (around 0.142 Million Tes of coal).
